BBC is undoubtedly the defining voice of British TV, both domestically and internationally. But did you know it’s possible to actually tour BBC studios? That’s right, BBC is now offering tours of it’s famous studio facilities, allowing you a chance to take a sneak peak being the scenes of several programs, including BBC North West Tonight. During the tour, you will also have a chance to take a look at BBC Radio studios, and Studio 7, home of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
If the BBC tour sounds like something you’re interested in, definitely reserve a spot well in advance. Tours are limited to 15 people and book up quickly. The tours take place on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and last approximately 2 hours. Note that you can only take photos (no video), and occasionally parts of the studio will not be available due to production requirements.
The BBC Studio Tours was favorably rated by my consumers, with some calling it a “definitely highlight of my day”, calling the building “noteworthy in and of itself”. The guides are also fantastic, and are quite well informed. Also note that you have the choice of a children’s or adult’s tour, depending on which programs you want to focus on.
If you really want to tax that rental car, BBC offers tours of ALL it’s studio locations including BBC Television center in London, BBC Broadcasting House in London, BBC Birmingham, BBC Norwich, etc. In fact, it would be possible to tour England simply by visiting all the BBC studios!
