Whenever you fly into a new country, it is advisable to hire a car. There are numerous reasons for this but ultimately it comes down to the fact that it is not only cheaper, but also a lot more convenient. Unlike in a large city such as London, where there are buses going down every street and multiple stations meaning you can catch the train to any part of the city, Manchester has a rather more modest transport network. Of course there are buses and the city has 2 train stations but they don’t take you to certain parts of the city which makes it much more difficult to get around. Public transport is also quite expensive so it is not usually a good idea to spend an extended period of time using it when you don’t have to.

If, instead, you hire a car, everything is so much simpler. The road network in the city is exceptional and there are only very rarely maintenance works to be done; resulting in fewer delays (even if there are works they usually occur at times that are more suitable to the population; at night in term time when there are fewest cars on the road. The result of this is that you can get practically anywhere in Manchester if you hire a car when you arrive at the airport; it makes the trip much more enjoyable and it is much more beneficial to your holiday as you are not restricted by the places you can visit.

Terminal 2 at Manchester airport has every facility that you could ever desire. These are the services that are on offer:

-Bureaux de Change in the departures concourse before security. The Travelex Bureau de Change is very accessible and easy to find once you have entered the airport.

-The cash dispensers with Link, NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland services are near Bureau de Change and provide facilities for most cards.

-Entertainment video games are available for those of you in need of letting off steam.

-Meals, snacks and drinks are available. Just follow the scent and you will find it in no time!

-Passengers can gain wireless access to the internet via their laptop or PDA from cafés and seating areas across all three terminals. It also provides free access to the Manchester Airport website if you want to check where your flight is.

-Luggage Trolleys Plentiful and free. Not immediately obvious, they are available just inside the terminal entry doors in the ‘atrium’. Trolleys can sometimes be found in the Short Term car park but it tends to be pot luck.

-Pay Phones are in various areas so you can contact your nearest and dearest in case of emergency (assuming that your mobile is out of order).

The main thing to do is park close to the airport terminal in one of the car parks. This means that you can get straight in and relax amongst these fantastic facilities straight away.
